Water Filters

Coffee Select Ltd supply a wide range of water filters for use with commercial catering equipment including coffee machines and other hot beverage machines. The most popular filters are made by BRITA and European Water Care.

As coffee typically consists of up to 98% water, monitoring and maintaining good water quality is vital to producing a great tasting cup of coffee.

Water quality varies by region in the UK. Many areas have hard water which has a high level of calcium and magnesium compounds. Whilst not harmful to humans in drinking water, these compounds solidify when the water is heated, leaving limescale build-up inside hot drinks equipment such as hot water boilers and espresso machines.

How do I know if I am affected by hard water?

Roughly 65% of the UK is supplied with mains water that is classified as hard. Areas where the water is particularly hard are London and the South east.

Water quality is of central importance for the machines as well. Using a water filter prevents the scale deposits building up in your machine which can lead to breakdowns and limited efficiency.

Water—the prerequisite for enjoyment

Ideal coffee water is fresh and pure in taste and has no discernible odour. It should be mineral-rich, yet have a balanced mineral content. A total hardness of 7–12°EH, a carbonate hardness of 3–4°EH and a pH value of 6.5–7.5 are ideal.

The requirements are high: Top-quality coffee machines should be protected and the coffee should be able to develop its full aroma, have a stable crema and provide your customers with all round experience.

Professional use water filters specifically reduce the carbonate hardness in the water and eliminate any substances that can impair taste and odour. As a result, filtered water is of consistently high quality and boasts reliable properties. Scale deposits in machines are prevented, while all minerals necessary for flavour development are retained.

You must take care of your coffee machines and integrate a quality water filter.

Brita’s most popular range is Purity

Their 4-stage filtration in called the PURITY Quell ST and it prevents limescale deposits and ensures consistently high water quality.

This means you can rest assured that your coffee equipment provides maximum performance 24 hours a day. Consistent water quality over the entire service life of the filter and reliable removal of unwanted tastes and odours ensures exceptional quality and a unique taste for your drinks and dishes.

PURITY Quell ST technology

The PURITY Quell ST with 3 different filter sizes ensures reliable removal of scale-forming substances, as well as unwanted odours and flavours, and chlorine and heavy metals, thereby offering optimal product quality and long machine running times. Moreover, the filter in the water safely retains any coarse and fine particles. The PURITY concept is based on a simple idea: For every type of problematic water in the professional restaurant industry, BRITA offers a simple solution, tailored towards the specific problem? A filter from the PURITY family, simple and uncomplicated.

IntelliBypass technology

The unique IntelliBypass technology allows for a constant by-pass water rate irrespective of the volumetric flow. This ensures a consistently high water quality, particularly in case of low water throughput rates.

With BRITA you're always on the safe side!

The food quality provided by BRITA water filter products is tested and monitored by independent institutions. The PURITY systems carry the seals of approval from TÜV, SVGW, WRAS, VA and other national quality labels. Electronic components naturally bear the CE mark.

Filtration stages

1. Prefiltration

The expansion media removes coarse particles

2. Carbonate hardness reduction

An ion exchanger reduces the carbonate hardness content and prevents scale deposits

3. Activated carbon filtration

Substances that can impair taste and odour are eliminated

4. Fine filtration

Retains particles measuring up to 10 µm
